Day 7 Carreco to Caminha

I do not feel more human! My joints hurt pretty bad. Today’s walk is supposed to be 12 miles but I have learned that we need to add a couple of miles to that.

The walk started off kind of confusing. We made our way down to the ocean but then couldn’t find a clear path. The apps kept trying to send us into some thick brush and while I like to pretend I am outdoorsy, getting scraped by thorny bushes is not on my list of things to enjoy so we opted to climb back up and follow the road for a bit.

Thankfully there was a good amount of cloud cover.

We ended up in a nice wooded area that smelled like pine

After five miles, I was done. Especially after we looked at the map and realized we had another 9.5 miles to go. Rich was still itching to walk so I got a ride and he walked. He’s a trooper. He walked the whole way and seems totally fine. I’m still limping and groaning!

I was feeling pretty disgusted with myself but then my angel friend, Olga, gave me a Whatsapp pep talk and I felt immediately better.

When I got to Caminha I found a cafe and did something I have been missing. I had coffee with my Mom.

Last year, after she passed I had my little Mom book and I wrote to her everyday. I thought it would just be during Camino but it turned into a way for me to still feel connected to her. Sitting with her and drinking coffee (her absolute favorite thing in the world) was what I needed today.

Today is our last day in Portugal. Tomorrow we cross over into Spain. I am a little sad to leave Portugal because I have loved it here. The people have been amazing and we have really enjoyed exploring. I hope this is just the first of many visits here.

Not sure about tomorrow’s walking plan. It is another long distance day so will have to see what my body can handle.

Hasta manana!
