Day 1 Porto to Matosinhos

We couldn’t have asked for a better start to our Camino. We were ready to go at 7AM and our luggage was promptly picked up to be transported to the next stop. We made our way down to the river and as instructed kept the river and eventually the ocean on our left and walked. After about an hour I started to get cranky from lack of caffeine. It seems the cafes don’t open until 10am.

We stopped at the first open cafe we came across and I am so happy we did because we spent a couple of hours there and ended up meeting an amazing couple who are from the states but originally from Portugal. You know when you meet someone and feel like you were just meant to meet them? That’s how we felt about them. I forgot to ask if I could blog about them so I won’t mention names but if you are reading this please know that we feel so blessed to have met you both and just want to thank you for chatting with us.

The walk was beautiful by the ocean and the day was perfect. My comically large hat is proving to be more of a hassle than anything because it flaps around in the wind.

We did 7.25 miles today which was perfect to ease into the whole thing. Now we are going to find some food. Rich will upload pictures later. Here is one from a nice spot where we took a break.
