Villar de Mazarife to Astorga - October 1

It’s hard to believe that we are just 11 days away from Santiago. Today was a mostly pleasant and flat walk out of Villar de Mazarife. We started the day all smiles.

As you can see, the sun was creeping up in the background and there was no shade so it was time to heed Alisa’s advice and bust out the sun umbrella that we have been carrying for just this purpose. Thanks to some extra bungee cords I was able to rig it to my shoulder strap.

I was able to get six miles in but the Lupus flare is in full force so I got a taxi while Rich and Olga walked the remaining 13 miles.

We stayed at a lovely albergue, MyWay Albuerge, in Astorga. We had a private room with a private bathroom and it felt like a real treat! We enjoyed a communal downstairs and sat between a group of Spanish speakers and a French man. My brain was getting quite the workout trying to go back and forth between both languages. “Si, I mean Oui….Merci beaucoup, I mean Muchas Gracias”. Oh mon dieu!
