Ponferrada to Villafranca del Bierzo, Spain -October 4th

We left the Alburgue in Ponferrada around 8:00am. We found the Camino about two blocks away and walked in a nice park along the river toward the outskirts of the city. Leaving the river and park behind we made a a short but steep climb we were rewarded with an awesome view of the city and surrounding mountains.

Our walk continued through picturesque residential areas surrounded by mountains and valleys.

There were quite a few small villages along the route separated by a mile or two of farmland and houses.

Soon we transitioned from brick and asphalt to gravel as we wound our way up and down toward our destination.

After a short stint of road walking followed by more up and down along a gravel road we arrived in Villafranca del Bierzo and caught up with Sunita. Fifteen miles in five and 1/2 hours including a stop for breakfast - a far cry from yesterday!!
