Zubiri, Spain - September 8

We had a down day yesterday in Roncesvalles and didn’t do much, hence no post. Today’s walk from Roncesvalles to Zubiri is 13.9 miles and not exactly an easy walk. It is beautiful walking from little town to little town. Today is pretty drizzly which isn’t fun but could have been worse. I made it to the second town on the way (about 5 miles) and decided to take a taxi. I am constantly aware of how slow I am compared to other pilgrims. Along with saving my strength, I wanted to give Rich and Olga a chance to walk at their more brisk pace instead of waiting on a snail like me.

I think I was expecting to have a lot more contemplative time but the truth is the whole time we are walking my mind is on repeat saying “how the hell are you going to do this?”, “am I walking fast enough?”, “oooh cow!”, “there is no way you are going to make it”, “why am I so fat and out of shape??”, “I miss Pepper”, “ooh cow!”, “Argh! Not another hill!”. You get the picture. I suppose it is definitely giving me a break from constantly missing Mom and sobbing all day long. I feel almost guilty about it. Like I am not spending every waking moment thinking about her. I don’t want her to slip away from me. Sorry this is turning into “a look in to the crazy mind of Sunita” post!

I am going to go do some exploring of Zubiri while I wait for my fellow pilgrims. Here a couple of pics from today (not taken by Rich so excuse the quality)

P.S.- we can’t figure out how to “like” your comments but please know we are reading them and they make us so happy!
