Leon days 1-2, September 24-25

Our journey to Leon started with a bus ride from Burgos. We stopped at a cafe near the bus station and the barista and local clientele were so nice. They asked if we were perigrinos and wished us well. The barista even drew on our coffee con leches. I will let you decide which one was for me and which one was for Rich:

A side note about coffee here. They don’t do drip coffee like we do in the States. Cafe solo is espresso. Cafe con leche is espresso with steamed milk. They are delicious but the ratio of milk to espresso skews highly to the milk side. I like really strong coffee with a hefty splash of milk. Preferably oat milk. Cortado is espresso with just a little steamed milk so the taste is perfect for me but I need about 4 of them. An Americano is espresso with hot water and is supposed to be the closest thing to our drip coffee. So my workaround every morning is to order an americano and a cortado. I pour the cortado into my americano and voila! Cafe de Sunita!

We got to Leon and took a taxi to our apartment. We had a little mishap where one of us left our daypack in the cab but it was quickly rectified by calling the taxi company. Google translate has been invaluable on this trip!

As mentioned in a previous post, our first order of business was to get groceries so we could eat some fresh veggies. We were quite happy with our first meal

We walked around the city and went to the Museo de Leon which was all about the people who have lived in this area from prehistoric times to present. The cathedral in Leon is enormous and luckily I have my personal photographer with me

We didn’t go in because it cost 7 euros to go in and I have philosophical issues with paying to get into a church. I am happy to donate but charging people for entry into somewhere that is supposed to be a place of worship doesn’t sit well with me.

Some more photos from wandering around Leon

The photo above is a statue of Gaudi but more importantly you can see my new comfy shoes! I think they are comically large and bright but they feel like walking on clouds. I am breaking them in this week so I will be Camino ready next week!

I need to do a better job of photographing Rich. I’m on it! Tonight we are going to check out the night life (ok early night life) since the area where we are staying is quite lively.

That’s all I have for now. For any of you who are wondering how Pepper is doing without us. Please see exhibit A

Exhibit B from a FaceTime where she totally ignored me

I would say all her Aunties are taking good care of her. At this point I am pretty sure she won’t be too thrilled when we come home!

Thanks for reading. I miss you all.
