Agés to Burgos, Spain - September 20

We left the Alburgue at first light to start our short 13.5 mile walk to Burgos. The woman at the front desk told us it was an easy walk, with just a little bit up in the beginning. The “little bit up” turned out to be a mile and a half and just under 1500 ft elevation gain. No trail, just scrambling over various size half buried rocks up the side of the hill. You had to pay careful attention where you stepped to avoid tripping or turning an ankle. I really missed my Lowa boots 😬.

At the top, we were rewarded with beautiful views of the sunrise.

There is a large cross near the crest of the hill with a pile of stones around the bottom, many with messages and paintings on them left there by pilgrims.

Of course, what goes up, must come down, right? We began our decent into a very pretty valley. Unfortunately, the path down was the same makeup as the one we came up, so more slow careful walking was required until we finally reached the bottom of the hill and a gravel road.

The rest of the walk was mostly flat, on well groomed paths and roads passing through a couple small villages and around an arport along the way.

We entered Burgos in an industrial area about two miles long before making our way into the city center. Sunita was waiting to meet us in the plaza near the Cathedral de Santa Maria. We had a quick lunch before checking into our hotel.
