what actually matters
Two weeks away from the beginning of our Camino adventure, and we find that mother nature is again showing all of us how all our careful plans may need to change in an instant. As you may be aware, there are many severe fires blazing in Spain now, including some near portions of the Camino de Santiago route in the Castile and Leon region. Thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes, and many thousands more are on high alert. Weather service reports have issued warning that the air quality in some areas (Leon, Logrono, Burgos among many others) is extremely dangerous and a severe health hazard.
Our hearts break for those impacted by the fire, smoke, and potential loss of property. We can only imagine how terrible it must be for everyone involved. We pray for the safety of the residents, firefighters, emergency responders and everyone living through this terrible catastrophe .
An acquaintance asked how we thought this emergency would impact our trip. Though we understand the reason for the question, and appreciate the concern, neither our planned travels nor personal impact are of consequence.
Bendiciones y oraciones para todos los involucrados.
